PHIVOLCS issues Alert level 3 amid Mayon eruption

A pyroclastic density current eruption occurred on Mayon Volcano in the Philippines on Tuesday morning between 7:19 a.m. and 7:26 a.m., as per the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology(PHIVOLCS), considering that the volcano is still on Alert Level 3 and prohibits entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone.

The cause of the eruption is the collapse of lava flows in the southwest slope area of the volcano, producing pyroclastic density currents composed of hot gases, ash, and other volcanic debris.

Photographs posted by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology confirmed the event, which only lasted a few minutes.

Alert Level 3 requires authorities to prevent local residents from entering the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone because of potential dangerous eruptions of lava flows and pyroclastic flows.

Local residents are encouraged to stay aware and observe proper safety measures, like not entering the restricted zone and preparing for any possible evacuation in case of further volcanic activity.
