Alex Eala Extends Birmingham Open Run vs. Alina Charaeva

‎MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala carries on her campaign in the WTA 125 Birmingham Open against Alina Charaeva in the Round of 16 on Thursday. ‎

‎Top seed Eala, ranked No. 37 in the WTA, quickly advanced after showcasing her mastery over Priscilla Hon, 6-0, 6-2, in her opening match. ‎ ‎"It was a good performance, especially it being my first match on grass, so I'm really happy. This is a good win for me," Eala said following her opening-round victory. ‎ ‎Charaeva, meanwhile, stunned defending champion Greet Minnen in the first round to arrange a showdown with the Filipina star. ‎ ‎

Eala holds the head-to-head edge over the 24-year-old Russian, having defeated Charaeva 6-1, 6-2 at the Philippine Women's Open in January. ‎ ‎The Birmingham Open marks the beginning of Eala's grass-court campaign, which will culminate at Wimbledon, scheduled to start on June 29.
