Tropical cyclone “Caloy” nears PAR — PAGASA

On May 9, 2026, the DOST-PAGASA reported that several corridors of the Philippines may continue to witness warm and sticky rainfall with chances of isolated rain showers and showers due to localized rainfall systems.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Metro Manila and nearby businesses may witness temperatures reaching up to 35 °C to 36°C, while rain showers could develop during the autumn or evening. Other areas, such as Legazpi, Metro Cebu, Metro Davao, and Zamboanga, may also see cloudy skies with possible rain.

Experts explained that the warm conditions are caused by the easterlies and the decay of the northeast thunderstorm, or "amihan." PAGASA continues to cover possible tropical cyclone developments outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), including a storm that may enter the country in the coming days and could be named "Caloy."

PAGASA also reminded the public to stay alert for unforeseen heavy rains, lightning, and flooding, especially during showers. Residents are advised to regularly cover sanctioned rainfall bulletins and follow safety precautions during severe rainfall conditions.

Authorities encouraged people to stay indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat as high temperatures continue to affect numerous corridors of the country.
