When innovation turns into inimical consequences

Artificial intelligence is a tool humans use to make work easier:: the simulation of human intelligence by computer systems that allow machines to learn, solve problems, and make decisions. But how can one invention turn into prevention?

‎

‎Hundreds of people around the globe use AI tools in their daily lives, to the point where AI also becomes an online therapist for humans. A lot of people might say it's too expensive to seek a professional therapist so they turn to the most convenient one, but that one decision will cause a bad outcome, because when we seek advice from AI tools, the response they will give us is only the positive side, the one that we wanted to hear, but not the reality. It will comfort us in a way that can help the pain go away, not to face the problem.

‎

‎Second, it can also affect our nature and water supplies, due to many AI hubs using water to produce our AI tools, such as chat gpt, grox, and dola. It can affect us through water depletion, as AI hubs consume between 300,000 and 5 million gallons of water every day, causing shortages for people living near the hubs. Artificial intelligence is also the root of displacement and gentrification; lots of local forest and agricultural land need to be destroyed just to build one AI hub, making indigenous people struggle to find another place to live.

‎

‎Furthermore, Many students nowadays use AI for their schoolwork, making them learn nothing but to depend on intelligence given by AI, and leading to academic dishonesty and plagiarism. This behavior also weakens students' critical thinking; they stop brainstorming, researching, and even learning on their own, resulting in a loss of writing skills. As AI generates text, students forget how to write arguments and build original thoughts.

‎

‎Lastly, development of advanced AI can also cause our own extinction, according to Jason Coxon, a researcher from anthropic and openai who help develop chat gpt, Artificial intelligence are getting way out of human hand and there is a greater than 10% chance AI kills all human within the next decade. But the question is, why are we not stopping it? The answer is that AI is a big race in industry; that's why many big companies risk making artificial intelligence despite the consequences. He argues that individual companies cannot stop on their own due to competitive pressures. This paves the way for people's biggest nightmare.

‎

‎In conclusion, the development of advanced artificial intelligence no longer matters when it risks human survival. As we have seen, AI leads to massive job displacement, nature destruction, water depletion, and the death of academic integrity. More dangerously, creating superintelligence without proper guardrails invites pitfalls we can't undo. To protect our nature, workforce, and our collective future, we must abolish the use of advanced AI before technology becomes the death of our tomorrow.
