Floodmare: Corruption drowns the Philippines

 Behind warm smiles and reassuring promises, corruption quietly buried the flood control project meant to protect entire communities. For years, officials spoke of progress and safety. Yet when heavy rains came and water rose, the project was nowhere to be found. In its place stood only fear, etched across the faces of ordinary Filipinos as they watched their homes, their memories, and the lives they had built so dearly be washed away beneath the flood.

 This tragedy continues with recent typhoons. Have once again turned the streets into raging rivers and homes into islands of mud and brown water. Ordinary family watched as the flood invaded their home; water rose every minute, washing away the furniture, photographs, and memories that they built. Officials had once promised that the flood control project was "Completed and fully developed," declaring the work finished. Once the public found out, the works that were promised to be complete were nowhere to be found. Now the same officials face Public anger, investigations, and the consequences of their corrupt promises.

 The floodwaters will eventually recede, as they always. Mud and debris will be cleared, and life will try to return to what it usually was. But what will never dissappear was the betrayal of the broken promises made with corruption and lies, the project that only existed on paper and in words, and the trust that has been washed away along with so many homes. What was stolen was never just the money. It was the chance to improve our economy and the state we are in, our safety against natural disasters, and to make our country a better place.
