Weapon Against Corruption

Filipinos deserve a government that is honest and does not hide secrets behind the cameras, a government with accountability and transparency. Yet corruption is still the biggest and hardest problem in the country. Funds that were supposed to go to health, education, and infrastructure were slowly robbed by corrupt politicians without a trace. This is why transparency is needed in the Philippines. When government actions are open to the public, corruption is hard to hide, leaders are reminded that they are responsible and accountable to the people they serve, because in the end, ordinary people are the ones who are suffering from all these problems.

Officials are the ones who collect public funds from taxpayers. Meaning, the money was from the people who pay taxes; they have the right to know what they were spending and how they spent it. The budgets, projects, and decisions regarding the tax should be public and presented in an understandable way. This allows people to know and monitor the activities the government is spending on.

Corruption grows in secrecy, whenever important decisions are hidden from the public, there's a lot of possibility that they can do with the tax. Such as misuse of funds, and most important of all is the abuse of power and money. With no transparency, it becomes difficult to know if officials truly serve us or just serve themselves.

Transparency strengthens public trust; people will like to support the government if they know our leader is responsible. On the other hand, transparency cannot dissolve corruption alone. A stronger law and a responsible leader to lead the once corrupted country to the most successful one.

In my opinion, the most important and effective way to eliminate corruption among politicians is to implement transparency, which can prevent corruption and hold accountable those who abuse their power. When transparency becomes a priority, public resources are likely to benefit the people they are meant to serve.
